Good News! We are one step closer to permanently protecting the Yellowstone gateway from the very real danger of industrial gold mining. And you can help move us even closer.
This week the U.S. House will hold a hearing on the Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act (H.R. 4644). Colin Davis, founding member of the Yellowstone Gateway Business Coalition—a group organized to stop the mining—has accepted an invitation from Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte to testify at the hearing. Montana Senator Daines has given a verbal commitment to advance the Senate version (S. 941) out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee later this summer.
Since Yellowstone is a NATIONAL park, if you live in the US your opinion matters on this issue. Please let your representatives in Washington know that you support passage of this important bill as soon as possible!
Here’s a link provided by Park County Environmental Council that you can use to send a pre-written letter (with space for your own comments) to your representatives.
The Senate and House versions of the Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act are identical and would permanently withdraw federal mineral rights on 30,000 acres of public land near and adjacent to Yellowstone National Park. The Act would stop proposed gold mines from expanding onto unclaimed public lands. The legislation does not impact private property and does not impact other public uses on public lands.
Thank you for your help in protecting Yellowstone’s wild lands and wildlife.
